Windows XP Arguably the best operating system released by Microsoft. Discuss exactly what it is that makes Windows XP the best operating system; even in comparison to its superiors

Default Reinstalling Windows without the original CD

Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem with Windows XP Pro - winsrv cannot be found - so I'd like to reinstall Windows but I don't have anymore the original CD. Is there a way still to proceed with the reinstallation of Windows ? Is there a program that can be run from the Windows directory that will reinstall the OS ?

Thanks for your help !

You don't need the CD, only the key. That's the important thing. If you have the key then I would see about borrowing a disc from a friend.

You might want to check the Microsoft support site as you may be able to download just the files that you need without having to completely reinstall your OS. It doesn't always work but it's worth a shot.

My first recommendation would be to google the exact error phrase you're getting. If you spend about 10-15 minutes, you're likely to find a solution to your problem that does not involve re-installing windows.

As for re-installing it without the original CD, I don't know if that's possible to do. You're going to have to have the key.

Find solution for your winsrv cannot be found by doing a google search. Reinstallation is the second option.
