Windows XP Arguably the best operating system released by Microsoft. Discuss exactly what it is that makes Windows XP the best operating system; even in comparison to its superiors

Question Problem logging into user account!

I am running Windows XP (through Boot Camp) on my MacBook Pro. I'm having problems logging into the Windows OS. When I select the user name from the Windows welcome/login screen, it starts to open Windows/desktop... then about 10 seconds later, it closes and goes right back to the welcome/login screen. This happens every time I try logging in... and I've found no way to get into Windows.

I've been running Windows on my Mac for over 2 years now with no problem...

Any suggestions?

why don;t you try to access windows throught safe mode, once you are there create another accound, and scan your computer for viruses. Likewise, do;t set any password for your accounts so windows can access your accoiunt without having to show you the login screen, if that works then i guess there is a glitch or a virus doing that.

you might want to use your xp cd, and access command line from it, then restore your computer by going to the restore folder and using the restore program that is in that folder. (you can do that from safe mode too, if you have access to safe mode then do it from there.

btw, if you get your computer back in business, try to use software such as ghost to create a backup of your computer in case you run in trouble in the future, that will free you from a lot of trouble. I know ghost might be a little bit expensive, but there are always a way to get stuff for free

If you do this and start the computer in normal mode after creating the second user account, I doubt this would work because you could have a worm.

Worms are usually used to "transport" viruses around OS', over the net, etc....
Kinda like the a piggy-back-ride. (The worm is the piggy, the virus is the rider on its back)

Restoring your system to the time it last worked properly from Safe Mode would be a good choice or running a scan via the internet incase the software on your PC has damaged any AV you have.
(I have heard of this a lot lately actually. lol)

Once you have fixed your PC it might be best if you created a System Restore Point and keep this on a CD.
- You can do this via Start Menu>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

(and keep a frequent back-up!)

You may also try to create a new user on windows and see if the same thing happens, it is possible that the user profile has become corrupt. I hope you can still get logged into an admin account or this may be hard.
