Default .TRP files on Vista

Hi, I need someone that helps me solve this problem. I record my movies on a hard drive as .TRP files and watch them with Windows Media Player directly from the drive on a laptop when I travel. I have Windows Vista installed in that laptop. I have another laptop that has installed Windows XP and I can’t watch the movies from the drive on that laptop. What I am doing wrong? Do I need a special codec in my XP laptop? Thank you in advance.
