Default Reverting to XP

My trusty old desktop is in dire need of replacement but all the new ones I've seen are running Vista. I want to hold off on running Vista, at least for now -how easy is it to replace Vista with Windows XP?

I had no problems changing back to XP when I bought a new laptop that was preloaded with Vista. There was a certain comfort in knowing that I have Vista sat there on the shelf, should XP ever truly become antiquated, but Vista just would not run well on my system so I changed. It took all of about two hours.

I don't know exactly what it is about Vista that I am not comfortable with, but I will continue to use Windows or as long as I can, I guess I am just human.... hating changes.

None of my computers run Vista, but I did not like it all when I have used it at friends houses.

While Windows XP took some getting used to also, Vista just seems to offer nothing new that I would deem as essential.

The improvements seem to be mainly on the cosmetic end, and I just have had a real bad taste in my mouth.

As for reverting to XP from Vista: I can't really offer any advice there

Check with several dealers to see if they have any machines that are still loaded with XP. I know Microsoft is looking at still supporting XP for a while yet and I've been told that if you specifically ask for XP that you may be able to get it.

Good Luck!

I remember that after Windows ME came out, you could still buy some new computers with Windows 98: Second Edition up until around 2002 or so.

The way I see it, Vista is the first Windows flop since ME.

A number of retailers should still offer XP, and sometimes for less money than with Vista installed.

Now I'm not too sure that the first thing I want to do on my new machine is to downgrade its OS, I mean if I have to, I will. I'm not comfortable enough with Vista's foibles to live it. Still it seems like finding brand new XP machines on the shelves wil be a little difficult.

If you shop online with Dell you can build your own computer with XP or have it added on to a Vista system. Also, there are a few places around that still sell XP, but they are not top-end computers either. I was in the electronics department at Walmart last week and saw a few XPs. Not sure what price range you are looking for, these were on the lower end.

I know a few people who have already reverted back to XP. I think most of those who switched back did so because there were trying to run Vista on a inferior system and thus making it run like crap, I mean slow.
