I installed my first Vista Windows Service Pack 1 last night. I can not really tell a difference in the way anything was working before the installment and after, though. Has anyone else installed it and what is it supposed to do for Vista?

The first service pack wasn't to change the functionality of the OS at all. It was simply a collection of security updates and patches that had previously been released singly. Sorry that you expected improved functionality-none was intended.

If you recall the same thing happened with XP. As security flaws were discovered, patches were released to fix them. Fairly soon there were a bunch of patches needed and it was a real pain for anyone installing XP from fresh to download and install.
So they released SP1. It took all the little fixes and balled them up together to make it easier. That's all this is. |

I didn't even realize SP1 was out yet. I'll have to go run an update on my Vista machine and get it updated. I sure hope it doesn't mess things up. Just once it would be nice to have most of the security "issues" done with the initial version.

I just updated my wife's computer which has Vista and she hasn't noticed anything either. It bothers me a bit that if there are so many security updates to do then why did they release it before it was done? Sometimes I think they are in too much of a hurry to get out the next release.
