Default Whatever happened to Netscape?

I really used to be a big fan of Netscape but just don't see it around much any more. I use Firefox almost exclusively now because it has a similar feel to it as Netscape did. So what happened?

AOL bought it, after that I have no idea. I have been wondering if it may make an appearance again anytime but so far no such luck.

Yes, AOL bought it and the browser is still available. The latest version was 9.0.0.6 but I don't think there is any official suport for any of its releases. I still use mine from time to time.

It's not still there actually. It's developement was ceased within the last couple of months-so if you have a current copy you'll want to keep hold of it because there will be nothing new.

It just lost it's market share, fell out of popularity.

Default it's around

I remember a few years ago, Netscape was the one everyone was turning to. Now it's Firefox instead. Doesn't surprise me that it faded out after AOL bought it, though. I never really used Netscape at the time and now I'm a Firefox fan.

The irony is that Firefox was originally built off Netscape sourcecode, so you could almost say that Netscape's legacy still lives on to this day through Mozilla and it's various browsers. They were all based off Netscape originally. Kinda funny how Netscape is "dead" but it really isn't.
