Default 1st Windows 2008 R2 DC in a 2003 Native Mode AD based network

I am getting ready to start bringing up Windows 2008 R2 based DCs as part of my existing Windows 2003 based active directory. Has anyone got any caveats to discuss with regard to such a scenario?

Well, the addition of the 2008R2 DC went quite smoothly. We ran adprep /forestprep on the Schema operations master, and adprep /domainprep /gpprep on the infrastructure master and had no issues. (adprep32 was available on the 64 bit 2008 R2 disk)

We chose not to prep the AD for a read only domain controller which causes a NCSecDesc error in DCDIAG on the 2008 DC, this error can be ignored unless we decide to add a read only DC. We would then need to run the adprep /rodcprep.

We did run into a bit of an issue with the 2008 R2 DC. We had to turn off SMB2 so that XP client logons authenticated by that DC automatically got SMB1 responses.
