Default printer for photos

I have an older printer, and it does fairly crappy prints of photos. It's time to upgrade for various reasons, and I 'm wondering if the more expensive ones that print nice quality photos are worth it, or is it better to keep printing at Costco or Walmart?

The cost of printing at home makes it not worth it. You can get such a good deal on cheap photos at many stores, or online now, that the figures just don't add up!

However if the printer you buy just happens to be a photo printer, because that was the best value, then fine. But don't make that your focus.

Photo print shops do so much printing that they are able to bring their unit costs down to pennies. The cost for the inks that these so-called photo printers use will quickly make doing it yourself at home far more expensive.

I have a photo printer and I love it. The one I have is a Cannon Pixma IP6000D and the photos look great! You can print from your computer, camera or memory card and it has an LCD screen so you can see the pics you want to print.
