I'm running Vista with 2gig ram, brand new machine and 56k voice/fax modem. Unfortunately I cannot get DSL where I am and am not favorable to getting Comcast to do cable internet. It's too expensive right now for us.
Is there any way to actually speed up dial-up? I know a lot of things claim to boost speed but do they really? |

No, there is nothing that can be done. The capacity of the line can in no way be increased.
Some programs will use compression-so that you can load webpages faster. But it's not really speeding your connection. |

Back when we had dialup we switched from netZero to another one that offered the picking a number based on speed/usage. It worked alot better than NetZero, even with it being the cheapest plan. I've never seem much that really speeds up dial-up which is the reason so many people are pushing to get broadband/cable/fios. Do you live near anyone you can borrow wireless from? We shared with the next door neighbor on and off for almost a year.

I didn't think anything would work but had to ask just in case. Tanner, I would love to get DSL as I had it before I moved here but unfortunately, it is not available yet. Apparently the lines are too old and incapable of the service. So I will deal with dial up until it eventually gets here.
