My preteen daughter was complaining that something she wanted to download was taking "soooo loooooong" (imagine that in a whiney 12 year old voice with eye roll), some show she wanted to watch. I asked her how long it would take, and she said 15 minutes. I about died laughing and proceeded to tell her how long it used to take webpages to load, and how long it would take to download something like Netscape or Quicktime. All I got was more eye rolls.

Ah, teenagers (or preteens ). I'm so not looking forward to that stage!

And yeah, I remember when the internet just crawled. I am still shocked when people say they use dial up! I guess I've been spoiled having cable for so long... it's been like 6 years!

And don't forget that those slower downloads were walking up hill in blizzard conditions both to and from the Internet. Should have let her connect via dial-up and shown her what slow REALLY is!!

Oh my gosh! Dial up! The bane of internet users around the world, lol. I would go fix supper, eat it and wash the dishes and still wouldn't have a 20 meg download finished on dial up. Even a slow download on dsl is a whole lot faster than dial up used to be.

Dial up...and then after you had spent 40 minutes waiting on something to download you would have a problem with it or your connection would time out and you would still not have it downloaded and then have to start all over! I'm so glad those days are over!

I'm still stuck on dial-up right now (after previously using both cable and dsl). I'm adjusted to it now after several years but boy, did I ever b*** when I first moved down here. But the dial-up of now is still faster than dial-up ten years ago. Remember when modems were less than 56K? That really was slow.
