I can't stand Internet service at most hotels because their high-speed is always shared and never really seems to be all that fast. When I'm at home the connection is blazing fast and at a hotel it is almost like dial-up!!! UGH!!

That's because they are maximizing cost so they will buy and use the cheapest service that is deemed acceptable. They may figure also that people won't be using the service for any extended period, so by the time they get frustrated their stay is finished.

It has been quite a few years since I have even been in a hotel, but everything I have heard about hotel high speed has been less than desirable. That said you still are getting the access for free with your room though, right? At least it's high speed, and it has to be better than dialup regardless.

Its definitely a problem of cheapness. Unless you are at a hotel that regularly hosts business people who require good upload and surfing speeds they probably have very poor network speeds. It also means the rooms are probably cheaper as well though, I imagine if you were paying more you'd have better internet.

I don't use a laptop so connectivity isn't a major issue for me but one place that I like to stay when I'm visiting friends is Best Inn and the one I use is really fast. They have a kiosk in the lobby for people to check on their emails and such. I don't know if it would be different using a laptop in the rooms, though.

I just feel that it's great that hotel rooms are offering you some kind of internet service for free, and many people want to use the internet while on vacation, so they can keep up on anything they had to do. Not too long ago, you couldn't get any sort of internet connection in hotel rooms for free.

I guess we have to be grateful for these privileges. However when you become accustomed to a particular thing, it's kind of disappointing, especially if the internet connection is used as one of the features to advertise.
