I'm really not sure what your problem is. Do you mean you are taking a list of say prices from Word into Excel to run a sum of them and its not working because its still text? I've never really exported between much but it would seem to me its more than a formatting problem and perhaps something different. Even as numbers they are still text, just text that is given a variable so that you can run equations on them...
